Jessica was our Doula for the recent birth of our son Jackson and I can’t convey in words how valuable it was to have her as part of my birthing team, (I actually felt like she was my birthing team). I was not going to have a Doula until a good friend really stressed I should and I am sure happy I listened.
Jessica helped in the following ways:
1) Pre-Birth Education
– Jessica did private sessions with us at our home which was great as the information was tailored to our needs. Also, my husband and I have very busy schedules and as such we could schedule the sessions to fit our needs.
2) Birth Support:
– The hospital birth of Jackson ended up having some painful and dramatic moments. I felt like Jessica was there to support me and my husband throughout the process. As the nurses and doctors went into “medical speak” Jessica made sure I understood everything that was going on, (very important for someone that is analytical and likes to understand everything), and also was my advocate.
– During my contractions Jessica knew exactly what to do to help me through it.
3) Post Birth
– Jessica’s home visit was so great to answer any “new mommy” questions and help guide me as to where to get support where required.
Overall, Jessica was always a phone call/e-mail away and her support meant the world to me during my pregnancy/birth experience. They say that the biggest birth complications comes from the mother being stressed. I can confidently say that Jessica’s expertise and support reduced my stressed greatly and turned what could have been a stressful experience into a great one.
